Before the release of GUI (“Graphical User Interface”) Operating System, people used to work on CLI (“Command Line Interface”) of MS-DOS Operating System. The first version windows operating system launched in 1985, the name is Windows 1.0 and it continuously upgrading Windows 11 has arrived.

Many of you must be thinking that why did Microsoft company give name its operating system as Windows? Because computer only understands machine language, any person can give instructions of the computer to perform work easily. Through the operating system itself, we can give instructions to the computer and use different software.

History of Windows

Windows is an operating system with a graphical user interface. On November 10, 1983, Bill Gates launched Microsoft Windows. On November 20, 1985, Microsoft released Windows 1.0. A collection of applications is known as the Windows Operating System (OS).

Windows was first released as a software using the MS-DOS operating system, with the Windows 3.1 version becoming extremely popular. It replaced by Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11 among other names.

Windows 1.0

Microsoft released Windows 1.0 in 1985, with the unique feature that commands were written in MS-DOS. Users can access windows in Windows 1.0 by using the click and point capability.

Windows 2.0

Microsoft released its second version, Windows 2.0. After two years later, in 1987 which was specifically intended for the Intel 286 processor.

Windows 3.0

In 1990, Microsoft released Windows 3.0 for Intel 386 processors, which had improved performance, sophisticated graphics, and a 16-color scheme. This was the first version of Microsoft Windows to provide users with a consistent feel and appearance.

Windows 95

Microsoft released Windows in 1990. This version includes a number of new features. It supported 32-bit applications, which means that applications created specifically for this operating system could run extremely quickly. As compared to Windows 3.0, several internal enhancements were made in Windows 95.

In windows 3.0 offered improved performance, enhanced graphics, and a 16-color design for Intel 386 processors. This was the first version of Microsoft Windows to provide users with a consistent feel and appearance.

Windows 98

Microsoft released Windows 98 in 1998, with features such as FAT32, AGP, MMX, USB, DVD, and ACPI. There was new technology available, and so forth.

Windows ME (MILLENNIUM EDITION)

In the year 2000, Microsoft released Windows Me, which was an update to the Windows 98 operating system that also included certain features from Windows 2000.

Windows NT 31 (4.0)

The New Technology (NT) operating system was the predecessor to Windows. With a 32-bit operating system, it was released. Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation were the two main versions available.

Windows 2000

In the year 2000, Microsoft released Windows 2000. Which are used by business desktop and laptop users. Internet sites, printers, and numerous software applications may all be run in this environment. Microsoft released four additional Windows 2000 versions.

Windows XP

Windows XP is the most recent version of the operating system. This operating system became very popular, and the user interface had a terrific look and feel to it. Windows XP was released in two editions: Home and Professional. It was first introduced in 2001.

Windows Vista

After 5 years, Microsoft released Windows Vista, which provided customers with enhanced security, performance, and reliability features over Windows XP. In 2006, it was released.

Windows 7

Microsoft released the Windows 7 operating system in 2009. Microsoft’s latest Windows operating system was released, marking the 25th anniversary of the Windows operating system. Which received a lot of positive feedback.

Windows 8

The Windows 8 operating system was released in 2012, and it introduced consumers to the operating system with fresh designs.

Windows 10

In 2015, Microsoft released Windows 10. Which was thought to be superior to Windows 8? The most recent laptop uses the Windows 10 operating system. So, friends, now you’re all aware of all Windows versions.

Windows 11

Microsoft Windows 11 is a new operating system that will be released in the near future. It will be Windows 10’s successor. Microsoft Windows 11 was released yesterday 24 June, But the full Windows 11 OS has already been released online, with the Chinese site Baidu being the first to do so.
